DIY Baby Food Under 1 hour

DIY Baby Food Under 1 hour

I can’t believe that my daughter is now eating solids. It’s one more reminder that she is growing up and will not stay a baby much longer. One of the things I knew that I wanted to do when she started solids was to make my own baby food at home. I love DIYs and if I can make it then I prefer to do it myself. Making your own baby food has many benefits like lower costs and the ability to control what goes in your baby’s food. In order to get started and simplify the process you will need to invest in the right tools such as a streamer, food processor and food storage trays.

I heard about Baby Brezza’s line of food processors from a friend who loved her food marker. So, when I got to try the new Baby Brezza Glass One Step Baby Food Maker, I was over the moon. I needed something that would make the  process of making my own baby food easy in the least amount of steps.  This post will take you through how I DIY baby food under one hour and share with you a simple sweet potato and pear puree recipe.

How to Steam and Blend:

My daughter just started solids, therefore I made sure to follow the recommendations of our pediatrician and introduce different types of foods very slowly. I started with single ingredient purees and made sure to wait 3-4 days before introducing new foods. I then started combining different fruits and vegetables to give a more interesting taste.I personally like to use fresh and organic ingredients but there are many different ways to go about this ( ex. using frozen ingredients).

For this recipe you will need 1/2 cup sweet potato + 1/4 cup pear  OR 1 large sweet potato + 1 pear.  It is important to have clean hands and surfaces before you begin. I peeled both the sweet potato and pear and cut them into half-inch cubes. I then added the sweet potato and pear chunks into the food marker bowl and set the setting to stream for 25 minutes (as per recommendation of the manual) and then blend. I then let the food processor go to work.  The steaming process will begin automatically (make sure the water tank is filled before starting) and upon finishing the steaming, it will immediately blend for 30 seconds if it is set to stream + blend. You can also hold the “blend” button to continue blending should you want a finer puree.

Packaging and Storing:

Once the sweet potato and pear baby food puree has cooled completely, I either transfer it to a serving bowl or freezer-safe containers to freeze. I love and use the Garden Fresh freezer tray container from Nuby. These are great because they can store 9 equal sized portions with an air tight lid. I also love Nuby’s Freezer Pots as well because they are portable. Lastly, both products are microwave and dishwasher safe.

As you can see, the process of baby food making is super easy and well worth it. Overall, I love both the Baby Brezza Glass One Step Baby Food Maker and the Nuby containers. However, you can also choose to make your own baby food in a regular streamer and  bender that you may already own.

I loved making baby food for my son. But you have much better tools than I did! I used to mix and match cubes of fruits and veggies together once we got to the step of blending. It shocked me when he loved a spinach and sweet potato mix.

Even without the Baby Brezza, making baby food yourself is a lot easier than people assume.
